BERSERKERS were one of the most feared types of Viking warriors. They were incredibly strong and totally without any kind of fear. (Also see our Ulfhednir initiation).

The BERSERKERS were a much more organized group of warriors compared to the uncontrollable Ulfhednar. They were the elite forces of the feared Vikings.

The Berserkers (roughly, “bear shirt”) were highly valued by Viking communities. They were also feared – even by the Vikings if you got on their bad side. It was warriors capable of doing things no one else could do. Because of their magical powers – made them incredibly strong and totally fearless.

They were sometimes described as naked, wearing nothing but the pelt of a bear, covered in black mud as a natural camouflage. When they were raiding villages screaming at the top of their lungs in bloodlust.
And this insane approach to battle did the trick. In fact, it frightened people so much, that they believed that these “bear shirts” would actually transform into an actual bear in the midst of battle rage.

It was almost impossible to defend yourself against an attack from the group of Berserker Viking warriors. When an enemy saw those legendary warriors with their Bearskin – they were shaking and often fled.

The Berserker warriors went through special rituals and initiations that made them almost invincible, strong, and fearless. Those rituals and the force were initiated by a Seidr wizard. They became true Warriors of Odin.
